Obesity increases a person’s chances of serious illness such as diabetes mellitus and heart disease. A person is considered obese if his or her weight is 20 percent or more over the maximum desirable
weight for his or her height. To check your own status, find your height on the left side of the appropriate chart and track across to your weight.
